Country

Update – Wait, I’ve lost count!

Yes, this is another update that isn’t quite really an interesting blog post in itself. SORRY!   Well, maybe it is because while I have settled into a quasi-“settled” life over the past few months – I am not actually home.   I’m in New Zealand!   While this trip almost didn’t happen, the stars fully aligned and back in March I flew down to this incredible country. After a couple weeks of traveling around, I have since settled into Christchurch. But instead of being a productive blogger, I spent much of this time doing not much…  in addition to trying to make my money last as long as possible until I found a job.   However, here’s quick summary of what I actually HAVE …

New Zealand for a year? Why Not!

Known mostly as either the home of “The Lord of the Rings” or as the “forgotten county on maps,” New Zealand is a picturesque country that begs to be visited. Mostly thanks to “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” films, I knew that I would have to visit New Zealand during my travels. I simply did not know how I’d fit it in my travels, but had a rough idea that it would coincide with visiting Australia, since they are “close” [They are just 1700 km next to each other!]   The last thing I had initially expected though, was to essential “move” to New Zealand for an entire year! Read on to learn more on how this current life experience came …

June 9 – Saint Petersburg Welcomes Me!

June 9, 2017   After the events of a very long day of traveling, culminating in the Couchsurfing meeting which was also a blast – but late evening, I decided to start my first full day in Saint Petersburg off great. I slept in! Honestly though, it’s a great way to help combat fatigue and jet lag during traveling so I did not mind. However, by 2 pm I finally decided to get up and get my butt moving. I made tentative plans with another Couchsurfer to meet up later for dinner, and then decided to head out and just explore the city center. I hopped a bus, after figuring out which one, and got off at the main plaza in front of the Winter …

New York City – A Day in Transit & 9/11 Memorial

[NOTE: If you landed on this page after clicking a link on the Trans-MongolAsian Trek page – you did not get lost! My trip to Russia actually began with an overnight bus to New York City. It was from the Big Apple that I flew to Russia. Welcome to the journey!]     June 7, 2017   After boarding the bus to New York City last night, my goal was to get some sleep on the long ride. Well, that didn’t quite happen! After working on some things on my iPad for a bit while listening to music on my iPod, we ended up at not only the pickup in State College, but at the rest stop not long afterwards. So I abandoned the attempt to …

Saint Petersburg via Moscow – Another Day of Transit!

Landed without issue… though getting through passport control took a while due to lines and that our flight landed just as another from India. Eventually, I made my way successfully through customs and picked up my onward ticket from the desk agent. I had to go through security again – but was expecting that. There weren’t any signs and I didn’t see anyone else removing their laptops… so I didn’t – and got yelled for not doing so. They made me turn both my laptop and my iPad on before being approved through – but thankfully there were no further hassles! We didn’t start boarding till after the time we were supposed to depart, but no one else seemed phased by this. Unfortunately, I was …
