Where does everyone dream of going while on vacation in the middle of winter – certainly NOT Iceland where the snow and cold are abound! Yet, that is exactly where my work partner Vic and I went at the end of January 2017. Over the course of five days and based just outside of Reykjavik, we saw many of the beautiful highlights of Iceland accented by the snow and cold.

To be fair, there are certain activities in Iceland you can only do during the winter such as glacier hikes and seeing the Northern Lights. Both were high on the list of what we wanted to do and thankfully we accomplished both!

While in Iceland, we booked two day tours to help us get around and see some of the iconic sights. Check out more on those two tours below, or feel free to maneuver around the interactive map above!

GLACIERS & WATERFALLS TOUR

Booked through Arctic Adventures, Vic and I went on a day bus tour along the South Coast of Iceland. The highlights of this tour include the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the Reynisfjara black sand beach, Skogafoss waterfall and a hike on the Solheimajokull glacier.

BLACK & BLUE TOUR

Also booked through Arctic Adventures, we decided to visit the best of two worlds in Iceland: Lava caving in Leiðarendi Cave and snorkeling in the Silfar Fissure in Þingvellir National Park!
